About

Artist Statement

In my work I blur the lines between disciplines, often changing the nature of the material I choose to work with, I am deeply intrigued by their constant transformation and the fact that the possibilities are endless. My main objective is to invite the viewer into my world, to share what is personal and important to me in a work that is abstract and open-ended, so that even a person whose experiences and background differs from mine could relate to it.

I was born and raised in Russia, and am still influenced by my childhood’s experiences. My mother is a magnificent tailor and designer. I grew up surrounded by the art of dressmaking, endlessly fascinated by the sculptural qualities of the textiles. It is still astonishing to me how the skillful manipulations of a pattern maker and tailor develop a flat two-dimensional piece of fabric into a three dimensional sculptural structure, giving it a new form and a new life. I have been taking dance classes for 13 years, ever since I was three and a half years old, so the passion for dance and music are deeply rooted in me, which often translates into my work.

I have always liked all things creative, but started my professional artistic journey when I moved to New York, first with painting, then transitioned into sculpture, and finally came to the point where I want to work in both disciplines at the same time. Sometimes, I like playing with combination of different materials and changing their nature in order to trick the viewer’s. In my sculptural work and installations, the goal is to create a painting that is not limited by the edges or the size of the canvas, as well as creating an experience that is site-specific and can be changed endlessly with installation at every new place. While other times it is all about the color and it’s possibilities. I have no one favorite color, I love them all, and can never stay away from colorful expressive works for too long, it is almost as if I breathe through them.

Regardless of the process or materials I choose I want to share my emotions and ideas with the audience, so they can each create their own personal experience.

Bio

Victoria Borisova (AKA Nikaveron) was born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. She moved to New York, USA in 2009 to pursue her career in the Arts.

Victoria is working in various styles and mediums. In 2012 while focusing on painting and art history at LaGuardia college, she got a Fantasy Fountain Fund Fellowship for a semester at the Modern Art Foundry, a historic foundry in Astoria, NY.  The fellowship was an amazing opportunity for her to learn the lost wax bronze sculpting process from the beginning to the end, but most importantly broaden her horizons opening the world of three-dimensional artwork. After graduating, her newly acquired interest in sculpture brought her to the National Academy School of Fine Arts where she was focusing on human figure anatomy through drawing and sculpture, while experimenting with new techniques and materials, as well as studying the insides of the art business and begun her curatorial work.

Deep interest in the business side of the art world, rooted in her background in economics, led her to taking art business classes at NYU, and later working as a special projects curator and coordinator at a contemporary art gallery JanKossen Contemporary in Chelsea, New York, as well as in international non-profit art organization ArtePonte.

She holds Masters degree in Economics from Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Certificate in Fine Arts from the National Academy School of Fine Arts, NY, Associates Degree in Fine Arts from LaGuardia College, New York. Her works are in private and public collections in New York, USA. Besides focusing on her own art projects and a new body of work, she is an independent art curator, organizing exhibitions with up and coming artists from all over the world. She is based in New York City.
